Some unusual trees are found along the way.

On Beach 125 Street in the Rockaways I came upon a tree that is probably going to be destroyed by the demolition crew that is slated to take down the house. It is definitely not a native tree. It looks like a tropical tree to me. A bit like the magnolia tree but not the same. I took some seed pods, leafs and flower buds of the ground and will post more information after I find out what it is. as you can see from the picture the tree is quite high and is doing very well. This could not be said of the street trees and the empty tree pits in this block. The tree situation is very bleak indeed in this block.

The people in the neighborhood are very sad about it's immenent demise and are asking if it could be saved?
